Kids Club Update – Amigos de La Cruz

In anticipation of the Day of the Dead celebration, the children are applying the skills they’ve learned in pottery and clay sculpting to create traditional calaveras. Normally made from sugar, calaveras are small skulls that—far from being sinister—celebrate the lives of those who have passed and represent the duality of existence, reminding us that life and death are intertwined. They often wear a smile and are meant to humorously mock death. The children are enjoying decorating their creations, which can be placed as offerings on traditional Day of the Dead altars.

We continue with English classes, learning vocabulary and phrases related to greetings and introductions. The children had fun participating in role plays, pretending to meet and get to know one another.

We’re also staying active with our spatial and kinesthetic exercises and relay games—and we capped off the week with a fun day in the pool! ‍♀️
