Thank you Ensign Dental Society for the Children’s Dental Clinic held at the Kids Club! 5 dentists and 3 hygienists – they made a world of difference for the children with 278 appointments. Led by Don Cook (Boise) and Gordon Croft (Boise), this was the 20th year that Ensign Dental Society (formerly Society of LDS Dentist have come to the Bay of Banderas. The dentists drill, fill and pull teeth as needed. The 3 hygienists worked nonstop to clean and seal and apply flouride to the children’s teeth. See photos and stats below. Chilo Ortega posted the banner at the primaria, Camen Tapia and Dr Hugo screened children’s teeth prior and got the parent permission slips, Karen King, Sebastian Avalos and Alexa Shanafelt drove kids back and forth between school and Kids Club, Ramone fixed lunches each day and Jim Malone picked up meals and delivered, Dunita Davalos spoke to a class about the importance of dental hygiene, Deb Malone had the horrendous job of accounting for all the children’s appointments and rebooking if necessary, Dr. Adrian Malja provided the sterilized water and accepted the used syringes for disposal, Karen “Izzy” Simon made nametags, screening sheets and folders for each child and retrieving their past treatment sheets, the Kids Club staff Ale, Mayra and Lilly entertained the children and called home to speak to parents when necessary, Chris Bouchard MC’d the THANK YOU Dinner on Thursday evening (and he even sang a song with Esau Tatewari Music. Lilly did an interpretative dance with Tatewari…I’m sure I’ve forgotten someone. But we appreiate all the community and Ensign provides to the children. And best of all, for the classrooms who returned the most permission slips – their pizza party this week – AM school: both third grades tied with returning 17 each classroom, plus 6A returned 23 in total (some after the deadline). PM School – grade 6 returned 21 permission slips.
