Thank You for Helping Us Rebuild!
First, a heartfelt thank you to the many donors who stepped forward to help with the rebuilding of the Kids Club after the recent building damage. Once these funds are received, we will update you on our progress to rebuild the Kids Club. Your generosity means that our children can continue learning, creating, and growing in a safe and inspiring environment. We couldn’t do this without you!
Celebrating Learning and Creativity at Kids Club!
This week, in honor of Mexico’s Independence Day on September 16, our Kids Club students proudly finished a giant Mexican flag made out of corks—a colorful and creative project that filled the room with pride and teamwork!
A little cultural note: Mexico’s Independence Day commemorates the “Grito de Dolores,” the call to freedom first proclaimed by Miguel Hidalgo in 1810. Today, it’s celebrated with music, fireworks, parades, and plazas across the country filled with families shouting “¡Viva México!” Our students loved being part of that tradition in their own creative way.
Our new art unit has also taken root. The children are making leaf imprints with crayons while learning how to identify plants around La Cruz. It’s a perfect blend of science and creativity that keeps their eyes wide with wonder.
To build a strong, supportive environment, the children revisited the Kids Club “Magic Rules” of respect and behavior. Together, they’re designing a bright and welcoming sign to serve as a daily reminder of kindness, responsibility, and community.
In rhythm and movement, the plaza came alive as the children practiced body awareness and spatial skills through fun exercises—turning the town square into a joyful dance floor!
And in reading and language, our young learners dove into leveled reading books for the months ahead. They’ve been challenged to read as many stories as they can and then share them with classmates—growing not just their literacy, but their confidence and joy in storytelling.

How You Can Help
We have an ongoing need for:
- Bilingual Spanish–English books and books in Spanish
- Multiple copies of the same title for group reading
- Books in gently used condition — yard sales, Goodwill, and Salvation Army thrift shops are excellent sources
✨ Every art project, every book read, and every step in the plaza is made possible through the generosity of Amigos supporters. Thank you for helping us nurture curiosity, creativity, and respect in the children of La Cruz.
