Celebrating Creativity, Curiosity, and Community
At Amigos de La Cruz, every week brings new opportunities for our children to discover their talents, explore their interests, and grow through meaningful experiences. This week, we are especially excited to share the beautiful progress happening across our programs—from celebrating our traditions and discovering the joy of reading to building confidence through English and preparing for a very special musical performance.
Celebrating Our Traditions Through Art
This week, our children worked alongside Teacher Mayra to create beautiful Catrinas in celebration of Día de Muertos.
Beyond the colors, creativity, and artistic expression, this activity offered an opportunity to share the deeper meaning behind one of Mexico’s most cherished traditions. Teacher Mayra explained how Día de Muertos allows us to honor and remember the loved ones who are no longer physically with us, while recognizing that their memories, love, and stories continue to hold a special place in our lives.
Through art, our children connected with their cultural heritage and discovered how traditions can bring generations together. Each Catrina became more than a craft—it became a meaningful expression of remembrance, identity, and love.
A Love of Reading Begins With Curiosity
This week, we are thrilled to celebrate two wonderful milestones in our library program: the opening of our library lending program and the launch of our creative reading circle!
Our goal is to create a space where children feel encouraged to explore, ask questions, and discover the joy of learning independently.
Recently, the children explored topics they wanted to learn more about, developed their own questions, and searched for answers. One particularly inspiring moment came when Teacher Karla introduced them to the story of Malala Yousafzai.
The children were so captivated by Malala’s story that the very next day, they returned with information they had researched on their own. They discovered an animated comic, explored photographs and details about Malala’s life as an adult, and even took the book home to continue following her journey.
This is exactly what we hope to inspire: children who are not simply reading because they are asked to, but who become curious enough to seek knowledge on their own.
Through these initiatives, we are nurturing imagination, critical thinking, independence, and a lifelong love of reading—one story at a time.
English Opens Doors to New Opportunities
Our English programs at Kids Club and Telesecundaria continue to grow, and we are delighted to see the enthusiasm our children bring to their learning.
Our Conversational Sessions have been a wonderful success. These sessions give students the opportunity to practice English through focused, meaningful conversations that help them develop confidence, improve their communication skills, and prepare for real-life situations.
We are especially grateful to Lory from Louisiana and Mary from Texas for sharing their time, knowledge, and enthusiasm with our students.
Lory, a regular visitor to La Cruz, recently walked into Kids Club to ask if she could volunteer. At the same time, Teacher Abraham was looking for visitors and tourists who could help bring the Conversational Sessions program to life.
It was a perfect match!
Lory immediately connected with the project and embraced the opportunity to share her knowledge and spend time with our children. Her willingness to step forward reminds us that meaningful change often begins with a simple question: How can I help?
We invite other visitors and community members to become part of this wonderful initiative. Whether you are visiting La Cruz for a few days or staying for a longer period, your time and conversation can make a lasting difference.
To learn more or schedule a volunteer session on Mondays or Tuesdays, please contact Teacher Abraham.
Together, we can help our children build the confidence and communication skills they need to pursue new opportunities.
A Very Special Concert at Biblioteca Los Mangos
Music continues to bring our community together, and we are excited to share an important milestone for our Kids Club choir!
On Saturday, November 7, at 7:00 p.m., our young singers will have the wonderful opportunity to open the concert at Biblioteca Los Mangos, sharing the stage with the choirs of La Cruz, Bucerías, and Puerto Vallarta.
This performance is especially meaningful because several new children have recently joined our choir. Under the dedicated guidance of Maestro Aquiles, both beginning and advanced students have been working tirelessly to learn their songs, strengthen their voices, and prepare for this special evening.
For our newest singers, this is an opportunity to experience the excitement of performing in front of an audience, discover the power of teamwork, and realize what they can accomplish when they believe in themselves.
For our more experienced students, it is an opportunity to share their knowledge, encourage their peers, and continue growing as musicians.
We are incredibly proud of every child who has dedicated their time and effort to this concert, and deeply grateful to Maestro Aquiles for his patience, commitment, and passion for music education.
We hope you will join us in celebrating their hard work and supporting these young voices as they take the stage!
A Special Thank You to Our Wonderful Friends
Behind every opportunity we create for our children, there are people who believe in their potential and generously share what they can. This week, we want to recognize three very special friends whose kindness is making a meaningful difference at Kids Club.
A heartfelt thank you to Lynn, our dear friend, for donating wonderful trick-or-treat bags for our children. Your thoughtful gesture brought an extra touch of excitement and joy to our Día de Muertos and Halloween celebrations!
We are also incredibly grateful to Sandi, who brought a generous collection of school supplies for our students, including colored pencils, notebooks, and much more. These materials help our children explore their creativity, stay engaged in their learning, and make the most of every opportunity in the classroom.
And a very special thank you to Nikki, a wonderful friend whom Teacher Abraham met last year. Nikki immediately fell in love with our program and has continued supporting our mission ever since. This time, she is bringing more school supplies to Kids Club, helping ensure that our children have the tools they need to learn, create, and grow.
Lynn, Sandi, and Nikki, your generosity goes far beyond the materials you provide. Your kindness reminds our children that they are supported, valued, and surrounded by a community that believes in them. We are so fortunate to have friends like you walking alongside us.
Would You Like to Make a Difference?
Every contribution, no matter how big or small, helps us create meaningful opportunities for the children of our community.
Whether you would like to donate school supplies, support our educational programs, volunteer your time, or contribute financially, we would love to hear from you!
Please reach out to Kids Club Director and Teacher Abraham Galeana at 322 155 2864 to learn more about how you can get involved.
