Amigos Kids Club: Rebuilding for the Future
In May, the main building at the Amigos Centro Comunitario and Kids Club suffered a structural collapse of the ceiling. Our team acted quickly to inspect and shore up the space so classes could safely continue through June. Unfortunately, the damage was more severe than we hoped: due to rusted steel reinforcements in the roof and columns, the building must now be completely demolished and rebuilt.
We are in the process of securing permits for demolition and reconstruction, and while this is a major and unexpected challenge, our commitment to the children of La Cruz remains unshaken.
Keeping Kids Learning
Thanks to the generosity of our neighbor on Calle Camarón, we now have access to classrooms at the rear of the property. This allows us to continue the Kids Club program for the 2025–26 school year, even with limited space.
Classes began this week with most of our children returning—and a few new faces joining the family. We’ve started the year by celebrating Mexican Independence Day with art, reading, singing, and dancing. Children are making Mexican flags, learning the symbolism of the colors, practicing the Himno Nacional, and reading about the heroes of independence.
️ Looking Ahead
Our hope is to begin construction in the next month, with the goal of having the new space ready in time for the annual dental clinic in January. This is an ambitious timeline, but with your support, we believe it’s possible.
️ Rebuilding Update
The total cost to rebuild the damaged area of the Amigos Centro Comunitario and Kids Club is estimated at $200,000 USD. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have already raised $60,000 USD—that’s 30% of the total needed!
The remaining balance will need to be completed as funds are donated, which means every contribution—large or small—brings us closer to opening the doors of a safe, strong, and inspiring space for the children of La Cruz.
Your support today helps ensure construction moves forward without delay. Together, we can reach our goal and give this community the new building it deserves.
Thank you for standing with us during this critical moment. Together, we can rebuild not just a building, but a brighter future for the children of La Cruz.
